BRUSSELS' SWEET

Another Brussels’ speciality that you need to try is a waffle. You can find waffles as cheap as 1 Euro anywhere in the city, but I have no reference of how good their taste. I visited Waffle Factory in one corner of Rue du Lombard, not far from Hotel Amigo.

The concept of a good waffle in Brussels is that they have to be made freshly in front of you, right from the point where you order the waffle and watch them being made with the dough. I tried two types of waffle, the first one was Brussels waffle. It looks different from Belgian waffle, it has a rectangle shape and has light and crispy texture. You can top it with cream, syrup, chocolate or simply sugar.

The second type called Waffine, more like a thin brioche dough which has a filling. I tried the one filled with Belgian chocolate, you could also choose another filling such as Nutella.

Not enough of  waffles from Waffle Factory, I visited the legendary biscuit store owned by Dandoy family since 1829. You must try their different varieties of fresh homemade biscuits, especially the Speculoos, they still make them the traditional way with real butter, brown sugar and handcrafted wooden moulds.

Heading to one of the small street in Grand Place, you could find those two stores not far from each other. Maison Dandoy has several branches but the easiest to reach is in Rue Charles Buls (click here) and if you walk along the same direction you find Waffle Factory on the same side (click here). Happy traveling!
