Winter in the capital of Italy was never a bad idea, not only the weather was quite moderate also the city itself was really amazed me. I stayed over in the center of Rome, at my colleague’s house. I had a night flight from Berlin SXF to Rome Fiumicino. I chose my favorite of all time budget airlines, easyjet. For one way flight it costed me 36,20 Euro (only flight cost without any extra features offered by the airlines). I took a train from Fiumicino – Leonardo da Vinci International Airport or simply known as Rome Fiumicino Airport to Roma Termini (central bus of Rome), it costed 14 Euro for 1st class.

Roma Termini in the night is not easy, especially there's no officer around whom you could ask. I got lost at some point in the bus station then decided to ask two young ladies who helped me out to find a bus I must used to reach my colleague’s house. I am not always like to talk to people but when I travel, I do love to talk to strangers. There lies beauty of talking to strangers that could lead to anything, either friendship or even romance. The two ladies were asking me to join me next day to the beach, I could not remember which beach that close to Rome apparently. I refused them politely since I had a plan for Colloseum in the next day.

A visit to Colosseum for me was an extra ordinary experience, I prefer to call it as a perfect time machine to ancient Rome. For once in your life, pay a visit. I guarantee you will never forget it and would love to share with everybody else.

The first tips for visiting Colosseum, book your ticket in advance and avoid the queue. I recommend you to take a guided tour otherwise your visit to this amazing masterpiece is not worth. You could imagine that Colosseum is basically a ruin amphitheater from ancient Rome, without somebody who could best explain the ruin and parts of the building, I personally think you gain nothing beside silly selfie with ruin building as your background.

I did join the official guided tour for Colosseum, underground and third ring, it costed me 11 Euro and additionally I must bought an entrance ticket costed 14 Euro for Colosseum and it was bundled with the entrance to Roman Forum and Palatine.

The ticket is valid for two days since the first time use. Please refer to this website to find the ticket information in details.

For your information, you could not visit underground and third ring by yourself unless you join the guided tour. You will be amazed to see the architecture and system Romans used back that time to give such gladiator entertainment.

The another thing you must do before plan a visit, check the weather in advance since the amphitheater is an open air arena. I am pretty sure no one wants to bring an umbrella around during the tour and having grey sky with rainy clouds as your picture background.

The last thing I could tell you, know best when you should take picture and when you should just take time to listen to precious history of ancient Rome and Colosseum.

My best suggestion, ask your tour guide in advance which parts of building that visitors could only enter with the guide and which one you could explore later after the tour has been finished by yourself.  Enjoy your trip and visit. For one who joins the tour to the third ring, you could enjoy a stunning panorama.

Colloseum

Ciao,  Roma!
